Being married for 50 years is indeed something worthy of a celebration. But, what kind of a 50 year wedding anniversary gift should you get for the happy couple? I mean, after being married for so long, surely they have everything they need.

The good news is that there are some traditional gifts that you can get for the 50 year wedding anniversary gift. For the 50th anniversary it is traditional to give gifts of gold.

Of course, that can be a lot of different things. You don’t have to take this tradition literally. Instead try to get creative. Something like a gold key to a new car or a vacation to the gold coast may be just the thing.

Of course, you want to consider what the couple would like. Try not to get stuck in only thinking about what one half of the couple would like, but rather what they would both enjoy.

If you don’t really know the couple that well, you should find someone who does know them and ask their advice. It can be tough to buy a gift for two people who have lived together for so long.

But, if you are willing to put on your thinking cap, or asking for advice, you should be able to find them something special.

Another thing to keep in mind is to not get lazy when it comes to the card that you enclose with the gift. Instead of a generic anniversary card, why not write one out yourself? Include a story, or two, about some happy event that you have shared with the couple over the years.

That will not only provide a great card, it can also be considered part of the gift.

If you are the one buying the gift for your spouse, than I can’t really tell you what to buy. If you don’t know them well enough after 50 years together to know what type of gift they would like, I sure can’t help!

Remember, that often the best gifts are the personal gifts. Consider putting together a short movie with clips of photos from big family events. Add a sound track and perhaps some narration and you not only have a great gift for the happy couple, you may also have an heirloom.

And if money is an issue, relax, it’s not customary for friends to buy expensive anniversary gifts for the happy couple. That honor is usually reserved for the immediate family!

Don’t stress yourself out. The couple made it through 50 years of ups and downs, ins and outs. Your gift won’t be the most important thing in their lives!

Just try to think of the couple and what their likes are (as well as their dislikes) and find something you think they will both really enjoy. If you do that, you can’t go wrong!
