A golden anniversary is the celebration of 50 years spent together. It is a time for celebration not just for the happy couple but for all of their family and friends too. The fiftieth anniversary is called the golden anniversary and that is what the golden wedding anniversary gifts should be made of.

There are traditional gifts that you can give for all the anniversaries from the first up to the fiftieth. For each year of marriage you can commemorate it by selecting a gift made from a certain material.

For example; if the couple are very environmentally conscious you may plant a tree in their name. This would work really well for a first year anniversary – paper. But it can also work well for a fiftieth anniversary.

Even though it doesn’t fit in with the theme of gold, it still is a celebration of life and love and the couple would probably appreciate it if they are concerned for the environment.

Generally, by the time a couple reaches this point in their lives together, they have everything they need and probably a lot of what they want too. If that is the case than you may want to consider making your own gifts. This will allow you to create a truly unique and personal gift that can become a family heirloom.

One such gift could be a genealogy of the couple. They may really enjoy this and the opportunity to hand it down to their children and grand children.

Another idea is to compile old photographs into a scrap book or even into a video. To make it even more special add music and / or narration. Again, this can become a treasured family heirloom that is passed down.

Another fairly common gift is for the friends and family to pitch in and send the couple on a cruise or some other type of vacation. Doing this allows everyone to be part of giving the couple a wonderful gift… without going broke!

Most people today aren’t nearly as concerned with tradition as they once were. And that can be good since it will allow you a lot more latitude in choosing the gift you think is perfect for the happy couple.

Keep some of this information in mind when you are out looking for perfect golden wedding anniversary gifts. As long as your gift is from the heart and reflects the interests of the couple you are giving it to, you can’t go wrong. They will love and appreciate you and your gift!
